I began attending births as a doula in June 2002. Over the next several years, I completed the Association of Texas Midwives midwifery training program, including a three-year midwifery apprenticeship.
During my apprenticeship, I received training in all aspects of
midwifery, including prenatal assessments, labor and birth care, and
postpartum follow-up. In 2008, I spent three weeks at Family Birth Services in Grand Prairie, Texas. While there, I had numerous opportunities for cross-training and observing the practice of midwifery in a different cultural setting. I was privileged to work with midwives at three different birth centers. At the conclusion of my time at FBS, I sat for and passed the NARM examination. I
believe that pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding are natural, God-given
functions of the woman’s body. Birth itself is not a medical condition,
but the normal process through which new life enters the world. For the
low-risk woman, giving birth in her home environment, with skilled
attendants, can be an optimal choice. I offer a free initial consultation and would love to talk with you about your options for pregnancy and birth care. |
